Mental Health America in Allen County is the corporate guardian of 76 developmentally disabled individuals who were residents of the Fort Wayne State Developmental Center. Since the closure of that facility these residents are now living in group or Medicaid waiver homes, nursing homes, and other facilities throughout northern Indiana. MHA adult guardianship staff visit each client regularly, attend their staffing and treatment plan meetings, provide consent for medical procedures and monitor medication and general progress of these individuals to ensure their needs are being met. This specialized program is funded through the State of Indiana and MHA Adult Guardianship staff members are registered guardians through the Center for Guardianship Certification.
