Ted Coburn grew up in Churubusco and graduated from Purdue University in 1992 with a degree in Electrical Engineering Technology. His professional career involved designing and programming control systems for automated industrial machines. Currently, he is the head of Old Path Properties, LLC, a real estate investment company. He is also vice president of NAMI Fort Wayne and facilitates a consumer support group. He leads a weekly bible study for consumers and he is active in his local church. His parents, Steve and Charlotte Coburn, are also dedicated NAMI members, support group leaders and teachers.

While living in California in 2001, Coburn experienced the onset of bipolar disorder and was hospitalized for 48 hours. With no diagnosis or treatment, he flew to Cicago the following day. A manic episode during the flight led to his arrest with the felony charge of interfering with a flight crew. After spending 20 months in federal prison resolving competency issues, the judge found that he was not guilty by reason of insanity. He was released from prison the next day.

MHA is very excited to have him share his story and we know you will be excited too!
